Methodology

2-step ranking procedure

Identification of marketing journals

The GeMark-Ranking is based on a bibliometric ranking approach, a quantitative method using citations or references as ranking unit. In the presented ranking, publications (in journals) of German speaking marketing scholars being member of the German Marketing Association of the VHB in March 2015 were considered and the references used in these publications analysed. The period of analysis reached from 2011 to 2015.

The following figure illustrates the ranking procedure.

Definition of quality labels

To define quality labels for the ranked marketing journals quality building methods were identified by literature analysis and used separately for the relevant journals. By calculating the average quality label of all used lables, every ranked marketing journal was defined in a specific quality class.
The following figure illustrates the results of the quality buldiung procedure.
